December Cover Girls (and Boy) Part 2

And here comes Part 2 for December's magazine cover models:
Robert Pattinson in Vanity Fair; Photography by Bruce Weber
Rob has two covers Vanity Fair covers this month; one for the US magazine and the other for Vanfity Fair Italia, both include enough brooding shots and sly smiles to keep you Twilight fans happy. Also US magazine includes Stephanie Seymour article about past demons.

Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Harper's Bazaar; Photography by Mark Seliger
A two cover edition that will have all Twilight fans screaming. Rob and Kristin in the garden, on a motorcycle, even smiling... well almost.

Sasha Pivovarova in Vogue Nippon; Photography by Inez & Vinoodh
A terrfic cover; too bad Sasha doesn't have an editorial. The two major one's inside Tao Okamoto 'I Never Sleep Past Midnight' and Daria Werbowy 'Girl of the Golden Field'
Sarah Jessica Parker in Elle December 2009; Photography by Alexei Hay
Are you ready for more Sex and the City? Elle is trying to get you revved up and ready for the movie release. Even brings back some 80s, which if you can trust the paparazzi shots will also be mimiced in the film.
Victoria Beckham UK Harper's Bazaar; Photography by Alexi Lubomirski
Similar to the Elle (Oct 2009 by Tom Murno) Victoria is shot from strong angles with great lighting and sky-high heels. Other editorials include 'In the Bedroom' with Michaela Hlavackova.

December Cover Girls Part 1

We're barely into November yet, but the December 2009 editions are rolling out already. Lots of celebrity cover models (as expected with big box office movies coming out very soon), and a couple of models as well.

Devon Aoki in Numéro Tokyo (#32); Photography by Sebastian Kim
A beautiful and soft cover images contrasts with a dark doll-like inside. Since I loved the cover images so much I showcased those, but the inside is worth a peek.

Kate Hudson in UK Elle; Photography by David Slijper
Kate takes a step out of her girly-girl box to show us the more athletic and adventurous side. If you're a Kate Hudson fan the article is worth a read, but no very interesting editorials inside.

Lara Stone in UK Vogue; Photography by Mario Testino

Another soft and beautiful editorial. Lara as always is a vision in this aptly named 'Stone Age' editorial with an interview. Other editorias: 'Showpieces' with Doutzen Kroes, 'The 7 Wonders of Fashion' with Malgosia Bela, 'Red Alert' with various models.

Marion Cotillard in Harper's Bazaar Japan; Photography by Mark Seliger
Marion is a working model of simplistic chic. The editorial 'Natural Instict' relays this theme.

Natalie Portman in V (#62); Photography by Mario Testino
Natalie Portman embrasses her inner model as she strikes a pose on the cover of V. Magazine also includes editorials with Charlottes Gainsbourg and Alexa Chung, Dree Hemingway, Natalia Vodianova, as well as 'Pin Me Up, Pin Me Down' with Miranda Kerr and Ana Beatriz Barros

To Rent or To Buy?

I saw this website written about on fashionista.com the other day and I had to check it out. It's called Rent The Runway, and yes it is exactly what it sounds like. It's a database that keeps dresses that can be rented for an occasion, and while the concept is not new (shops have been doing this for a while and Buy Borrow or Steal does the same for accessories), but it's the first wardrobe shop I've seen online.

I am notorious for the wear-once phenomenon. This happens when you buy a beautiful dress and spend a pretty penny on it, but only wear it once. And in a couple cases, never at all. My closet is a graveyard for beautiful dresses.

Now this website can help me resolve this issue. Think about it, spend a fraction of the cost (a Giambattista Valli on the site retails $1,850 and can be yours for $150 for four days) and wear it once without the guilt. The site has amassed a collection of great new designers as well as some old favorites: Proenza Schouler (seen above), Richard Chai, Christian Siriano, Hervé Léger, Lela Rose, Matthew Williamson, Yigal Azrouël and much more.

The only hang up, would I actually rent a dress? Would you?

"Somebody spoke and then I went into a dream..."

When I think of Comme des Garçons I think of adventure; they create some great conceptual and structured pieces, but there is always an element of surprise. This is why when I heard that Rei Kawakubo was going to collaborate with The Beatles to make a collection I figured it would be out of this world.

The line ranges from $115 (t-shirts) to $860 (high-end bags), and will be available on November 20th, in Tokyo going internationally slowly and adding new styles as well. Of course the items are non-leather per the request of vegetarian Beatles member Paul McCartney.

Take a look at the first peek for the collection: an embossed polyurethane tote with the Apple logo (for Apple Corps - the Beatles record company) and a Comme des Garçons' favorite polka-dots. And well, it's underwhelming.

With all the Beatles iconography to choose from, the apple logo seems a bit boring. And "boring" is an odd word to use when describing anything that is related to the brand or the band. I'm keeping hope for the rest of the collection though, I can't make up my mind until I see more than one piece.

Insomnia Blogging

Hi All,

This week has been bad for posting, due to my inability to stay awake. I spent all day in meetings and all evening trying to make up the work I couldn't get done due to the teleconferences. I basically came home, ate dinner, and I was out.

For me sleep never comes easy and if it does, it comes at a price. Like Saturday morning insomnia. Today would be the perfect day to sleep in, but it is not in the cards.

Hopefully I can make up for the lack of posting today.

xo,
K

Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7th of your life

According to one poll, Monday has been voted Least Popular Day of the Week 176 years in a row. Go figure!

Do you have a Case of the Mondays? Today I do, and this picture of Sasha P. fallen in the leaves is the best way to describe me at the end of this long, long day.

How was your Halloween? Did you do anything fun? Dress up? Please leave your comments below I could use a pick-me-up.
